Say Hello to my Little Friend

This is Bo Peep! She's my new little friend. I spotted her at Goodwill over a month ago with a price tag for 9.99. Well, I just thought that was too much money so I passed her by. Every week when I stopped in I would see her peaking out of the glass case by the register and every time I would think about getting her I would look at the price and talk myself out of it. She was pretty cute, but I just didn't want to pay that much for her.



So, yesterday I stopped in to return a pair of pants I bought for my son that didn't fit and I noticed that it was orange tag 50% off week. Well, Bo had an orange tag so I snatched her up and took her home with me. She really is lovely and has wonderful detail and crazing that comes with age. Even her nails are painted. On the bottom it says "hand painted EM 49 Bo Peep" so I'm thinking she was done in 1949 which would make her pretty old. Whoever owned her took really good care of her as she doesn't have any chips or repairs that I could see.

So much for my resolve to not shop. After I went to Goodwill I ran over to JoAnn's for some crafting supplies. Of course I forgot my coupons. Today will be spent cleaning, re-organizing and working on some projects I mentioned last week. I hope to be able to share them with you before the week is over. Before I forget, waiting for me in the mail yesterday was the gadget holder I bought at Lalee's Etsy store awhile ago. I just love it and it is the perfect size for my camera.

P.S. I solved the problem with the picture enlarging. For some reason I can only enlarge a picture when I put it in the left side, not the center. I haven't tried the right side yet. Not sure why this is, but now I know that was the problem.

Too Much Fun!

Isabel and I had so much fun yesterday at the Coburg Antique Show. We took our friends Jean and Kate with us to make it a foursome. We all had a great time and found lots of treasures. Here is a picture of Kate looking really cute with Isabel's new wicker cart.

One of our first stops was to our friends Joy and Diane's booth. They were all together with Martha from Vintage Trifles and Cindy Docken from Tarte. Joy you might remember is from Auntie Joys and Diane is from Molly Mo's. Their booths were adorable. Here are some pics.

I found two rolls of vintage wallpaper, bag of scrabble tiles (just perfect for a project I am working on), roll of garden wire fencing, green wood hat stand, wedding topper, vintage scrap, pink plastic divided tray, bag of vintage lace, two french books, guide to Louvre museum, ticking pillowcase (splitting with Isabel), beaded heart pin, vintage wood box, guilloche pill box, petite point perfume bottle and crochet pink and cream apron (didn't make it to the picture). I was very happy with my finds. I wish I had taken more money because I'm sure I could have found more treasures, but we did run out of time and had to get back home.

Was so tired when I got home I did nothing but veg out and watched "Pride and Prejudice" for about the 1 millionth time. I just love that movie!

Reading over my past blogs I see a reoccurring theme. Shopping! I sure have done a lot of it over the summer. Now that summer is over though and I am running low on funds, I think it is time to concentrate on getting the house in order and working on projects. That is my goal, but of course, I can't go cold turkey. I will have to squeeze a little shopping in here and there.

Well, school started and I didn't lose that 10 lbs. I wanted. I don't think I lost any for that matter. So depressing. I went walking this morning first thing when I got up, but then I decided to try out the cupcake recipe I saw on Becky' blog. They were super yummy. Okay, that's why I can't lose weight. I love my sweets!

Today was the official start of soccer season and this year only my daughter is playing. She had her pictures, first game today, but before that, I talked my husband into going over to this estate sale I went to yesterday. This sale was part 2 of a sale I went to several weeks ago. Let me just say that the prices were very high, but today everything was 1/2 off, so off we went. Here is a picture of what I took home.

Cute little shopping cart, bird cage (what is with the bird cages lately, I seem to be drawn to them), three crochet pot holders, one in the shape of stripy pants, tin of buttons, thread spool holder, lots of yummy ribbon, embroidered dish towel, set of tin trays all ready for me to practice tole painting on them and a little picture frame. I forgot to take a picture of a sweet little tattered dress I found. It will probably fit me but it is pretty raggedy so I'm not sure I will wear it. Maybe a dress for the mannequin. So that is it. I hit a couple thrift stores yesterday on my way back from Monticello, and came up with nada. Very disappointing! That's okay because tomorrow Isabel and I are going to the Coburg Antique Show. It is about 1 1/2 hours away and we want to get there early so we will be leaving tomorrow at 5:30 am. Yikes! I went to this show last year and it is a lot of fun. Lots of great treasures are waiting for me, I just know it. Our good friends, Joy and Diane will be there selling too! Fun times!

Other than that, I am working on a couple projects which I will share next week. TTFN!

Yesterday was the first day both kids were back at school. Hooray! I did miss them though. My son announced upon returning home that school was "boring" while my daughter said it was fun and that she made three new friends.

I spent the day doing a little thrift shopping and having lunch with my husband. I also hit a couple of antique malls. Here is what I found.

Kind of slim pickins today but the cute hooked rug, tackle box, strange 50's woman pictures and two pillow forms (not pictured) were found at Goodwill. I got piece of lace and rose chintz fabric from one of the antique malls. I love the fabric and can't wait to use it in some way. Jacket, shopping cart liner, pillow, who knows? The lace I will probably use on a shelf or cabinet.

When I got home I found the most wonderful package in the mail from my new blog friend, Polly. She is the sweetest ever and if you haven't checked out her blog, please do so. Here is what was in the package she sent me.

Well, I better go get busy with my day. Lots of fun stuff while the kiddies are at school. Grocery shopping, laundry, general house clean-up, etc. Maybe I'll even have time for a shower today, wee hoo! Toodles!

One Cute Guy and Some Other Cute Stuff

I can't believe my baby is starting middle school today. It seems like only yesterday when we took this picture.

Now he looks like this.

Where did the time go? The cereal box picture is one of my all time favorite pictures. I still can't believe he fit in there. I think about all the pictures I have when the kids were little that were taken before we had our digital camera. I need to somehow get those pictures on my computer. I have a perfectly good scanner sitting next to my computer, just haven't figured out how to hook it up yet and I guess I just haven't pestered my husband enough to do it. Now that I have this blog though, it gives me a good excuse to do it. Here are some other fun pictures of when the kids were smaller.

The sad thing is I can't even get them to pose together anymore. I really miss when they use to be friends. Hopefully they will be again someday.

So anyway, dropping my son off at school today was a little harder than I thought it would be and I even shed a couple tears after I pulled away. Come on, it's not like he's going to kindergarten or anything. It's just that he seems to be growing so fast now and for the longest time he was my little guy and now he's almost as tall as I am.

Well, enough of that. To cheer myself up I took some more pictures of some of my collections.

Some rose paintings and some tole trays on a wall next to my sofa and tv cabinet.

I got this cute rustic cabinet from my friend Diane last spring. It holds a lot of my stuff.

Top of the cabinet is home to a little pink cabinet, tole trays and my collection of pink rose creamers.

Inside the cabinet on the top shelf is my wedding topper collection. I also have other wedding stuff here like my wedding picture and some cute vintage wedding books.

Second and bottom shelves just hold some neat miscellaneous stuff .

Last but certainly not least, a picture of the shelf above the entry to my kitchen. This is where my pink pottery collection lives along with some other cute stuff.

Today I'll be heading to the new Ikea in Portland to check it out and then my daughter and I will be getting our back to school pedicures. Tomorrow is my daughters first day of school. Going to meet my hubby for lunch and do a little thrift shopping to celebrate having both kids back at school. Have a fabulous day!

Shopping, Crabbing and More Shopping

Wow, has it been a busy weekend. Friday morning I started off doing a little thrift shopping on my way over to Monticello. I found some cute things. Take a look!

Little black trunk, crusty corner shelf,two wood cigar boxes and a little trio of valentine paper mache heart boxes all came from Goodwill. I also got another metal shopping cart there too. (not pictured) From the Deseret thrift store I got the wire basket, doll chair, two floral paintings, white wood shelf, round wood boxand bag of vintage seam binding. Not too bad for a day of thrifting.

After that I met Isabel at our booth and we did some major reoganizing. I think our booth looks so much better and it is so much easier to see everything now. That felt really good. Here is what it looks like now.

So, as I mentioned in my last post, we went crabbing at the Oregon Coast on Saturday. What a fun day. The weather was beautiful, the crabbing okay, but the best part was that we were all together and everyone was in good spirits. We took along a picnic and ate on the boat. We had four crab traps that kept us pretty busy, but the seals that were stealing our bait didn't make it much easier for us. We ended up with about 10 crabs total. If you know anything about crabbing, you know that you can only take crabs that are a certain size and you can't take any females. So in the following pics it may look like we caught a lot, but most of them had to be thrown back.

Last time we went crabbing I got enough to make crab lasagna and a yummy Paula Dean recipe for crab and shrimp au gratin. This time I think I will make some crab enchiladas. Now I'm getting hungry.

Today Isabel and I did a mini road trip to a flea market about an hour from here. We were both pleasantly surprised by what we found.

Here is what I got. Bag of vintage rick rack and binding, little tin with roses, wood box, satin organizer, pearl neckace with rhinestone clasp, tole tray and four vintage song books. On the way home we stopped at another Goodwill where I got the little metal shelf and a cool glass jar with lid. While trying to organize everything for a picture, I dropped and shattered the jar. Oh well, accidents happen. Bummer though.
