Kauai

Finally, here is my Kauai post. Sorry it took so long. As I mentioned before, we wouldn't have even taken this trip if not for the kindness of our neighbor who gave us his time share. We are so grateful. Last summer we took a family trip to Maui and while that was fun, Kauai alone with my husband was pure heaven. This summer we both had birthdays and celebrated our 18 year anniversary so this was our gift to each other.

The last time we took a trip alone (other than a rare weekend) this is what we looked like.

This picture was taken on our honeymoon. Wow! We were so young and skinny back then. We joke to each other that we are literally "growing" old together.

Now, I have to tell you that I had an awesome post with all of our Kauai pictures on it, but for some reason, it didn't save and I lost it all. So frustrating. So instead, I decided to do a flickr mosaic of pictures of our trip.
You can click on it to see greater detail.
As you can see from the pictures, we had a wonderful time. A friend of mine loaned us an awesome travel book called "Kauai Revealed." If you are traveling to Kauai, this is a must have. The authors live in Kauai and share all the best places to see, eat, etc. They tell you which places are a waste of time too, which I thought was really helpful. We couldn't believe how great the food was there. We didn't have one disapointing meal while on the island.

I also want to recommend the two excursions we did. The first was a zip lining tour through the Princeville Ranch. It was called Zip and Dip and I have to admit, it was kind of expensive, but neither of us had done any zipping before and we loved it! There are other companies that do zipping on the island, and while I can't vouch for how good those are, I was thrilled with the one we chose.

The second excursion we did was a tubing adventure. Here we rode inner tubes through old irrigation canals and tunnels (one a mile long). Not something if you are looking for excitement and an adrenaline rush, but it was really fun and included lunch as did the zip tour.

The week went way too fast. I could have easily stayed another week as there were several things I didn't get to do that I wanted to, but I guess that we will just have to go back another time. We would definitely spend a little more time at the north end of the island where Hanalei is.
Now it's back to reality. Doing the kids school run, monkeying with my stuff at Monticello and Splendid.

I do have a trip coming up in a couple weeks by myself. I am flying down to Southern California to see my dad in Temecula. We will be going to the Long Beach flea market again which I'm really excited about. If you live in the area and can give me some other suggestions of must see and do things, please leave me a comment on this post. I haven't had much time to think about this trip, but since it is coming up soon, I need to start making some plans.

Hope you enjoyed my trip to Kauai pictures. Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you how much fun we had snorkeling. One of the best places in the island for snorkeling was right across the street from our resort. We saw tons of beautiful fish and a bunch of sea turtles too. Okay, I could go on an on. But I gotta dentist appt. I have to head out for. TTFN!

Hi Lisa,
The pictures bring back great memories of our trips to K. I won a great trip there once and we got to go on a helicopter ride. WOW. Your trip looks very good and I'm glad you had such fun.

What a terrific time you're having! Such happy smiles. Please eat an In & Out Burger for me. My Dad lived in San Diego for years and I miss my visits to that area. He loved Hawaii, and said the air kisses you.

Beautiful pictures. I lived on Kaua'i for 10 years. I lived in Princeville and Haena, {end of the road} you brought back many memories. lots of activities have changed since I lived there. Do they still have the boat going down the Napali? It is a very beautiful island..the most of all them I think. congrats on your anniversary...
