Great Garage Sale Finds and a Hometown Parade

On Friday morning I was out the door to hit a few sales in my town. The first few sales I hit were pretty lame, but as I kept going I found some great stuff. One of the antique dealers in Old Town was having his annual Barn Sale. Found lots of cool vintage items there. Here is a peak at what I found.
Two lace tablecloths, vintage gold mirror, girl print on boards (sold the last one I found that was similar to this) neat old sewing drawer, old bottles, old frame, bag of vintage rick rack, two gingham aprons, watering can, old emphemra pics of little girls, old hat box, toy rifle

stack of vintage magazines, sheet music. Great graphics.

neat old typewriter

cute powder tins, bottle opener and glass knobs,

But the best find of the day was this awesome cabinet. Now, I'm not suppose to be bringing any big stuff home and I don't really have room for it right now at the antique mall, but I just couldn't resist. It is very dirty after sitting in a barn for who knows how long, and it has a few issues like missing cabinet door on the right side, missing glass and the door on the left is locked/stuck (no key), but come on! White crackley paint, pink paint on the inside on the left with pink shelves, cool hardware, neat carved details, what's not to love?

Here's another picture of the cabinet with the desk part down. Look at all those cute cubbies! This thing is made of solid oak and is so, so heavy. All I'm gonna do is give it a good scrubbing and it will be good to go. I've decided that even though I like making stuff pretty by giving it a makeover with paint, somethings are better left as is.

I was thrilled with my finds for the day. The best part is that I found everything here less than five minutes from my house.

So, are you ready for a parade? Yesterday was the Robinhood Festival in our town. We have been going to this Parade/Festival for the past 12 years, but I have missed the last three years due to Expo falling on the same weekend. I was thrilled we could all go again. It brought back such great memories of when we would take the kids when they were just little tikes.

Here are the parade goers, boy on right is my daughter's buddy.
Veterans, choked me up.

My friend Marcy's daughter Kate was in the Maid Marion Court.

Here's Marcy!

My friend Kevin leading the Robin Hood Marching Band.

Here's my friend Kelly with the Sherwood Youth Cheerleaders.

I loved these twirlers!

After the parade, the kids took off with their friends and hubby and I wandered down to Old Town to check out the Festival. Lots of booths, food and our favorite "Firemen Chicken" which we quickly got in line for as it always sells out fast. Took our chicken down to the stage area where we ate and watched some African musicians and the Reptile Man. It was such fun and a good reminder of how awesome it is to live in a small town.

Gotta run and get ready to take the kids to the airport. Will be stopping by Monticello to take a few more things. My honey has never been to Monticello so it will be fun to show him our new and improved booth. I promise to take some pictures this time.

A Birthday Giveaway Winner and Some Thrifty Finds

Congratulations to Debbie Kay for winning my birthday giveaway! This is what she won.

Vintage roses fabric bundle, vintage hankies, sweet pink and cream doily, little rose cup, little rose dish, rose tole tray, Victorian couple, rose hanger, several roses post cards, bag of millinery, several pieces of my favorite vintage wallpaper, bag of collage goodies and ceiling tin with rose print. I'll probably add a few more goodies too before it gets mailed out.

I was lucky enough to meet Debbie this spring while visiting my Dad in California. We were shopping at one of my favorite antique shops in Temecula, Serendipity, and had both just been to the La Maison Rustique barn sale when we mentioned our blogs to each other. Turns out we had both visited the other's blog. She is a real sweetie and I know she loves roses just as much as I do. Okay, maybe almost as much as I do. ha ha Debbie, please email me your mailing address so I can get these goodies off to you to enjoy.

On Tuesday I visited the thrift stores nearest to me and was so happy to find a few fun things.

Gold picture frames, funny sign, vintage "We Help Daddy" book, bag of wood finials, chippy little clock, smallish silver coffee pot (keeping for flowers), white hamper, toleware tissue box and neat vintage print in gold frame.

I bought the print mostly for the frame, but the picture is so sweet that I will probably just sell as is. A farmer and wife praying in the field. Probably for a good crop. I think the original is in the Louvre as there is a stamp on the back with details on the painter, name of picture, etc.

I also got this cute vintage white chair, fluffy down ticking pillow and adorable sixties bride and groom print.
Yesterday afternoon/evening I met Joy, Isabel and Joy's son Dusty over at Monticello to do a major re-working of our booth. It was dealer night so we had until 8:00pm to work our magic. We decided to try dividing our booth so that Isabel and I each have our own side. I have to say that I really like how it turned out. I was so tired I forgot to take pictures. Next time I'm over there I will get some pics so you can see how it looks. Afterwards we all went to a great Mexican restaurant for dinner. Thanks so much Joy and Dusty for all of your help and for the yummy dinner.

I am going to try to hit a few sales in my town this morning. Then I have to take my daughter into Portland this afternoon to get her hair re-colored as most of the red that was put in last week, washed out. Oh, the things we do for our kids.
Speaking of kids, mine will be flying down to California this weekend to visit their Grandparents for a whole week. This is the first time they have gone on a trip/plane without us. I am a little nervous about it, but know they will have a great time and it will be a good experience for them. Happy Friday!

What I got at Expo, Some Awards & a Fun Birthday Giveaway

Here are some pictures of the treasures I found at Expo.

Two adorable light aqua lampshades with ruffley lace, several smaller pieces of vintage roses fabric, and a lovely embroidered runner.

A bunch of vintage glass knobs, (from two different dealers) three rhinestone buckles, a mop pocket knife, guilloche locket, bag of buttons with several rhinestone ones, and a large piece of barkcloth era fabric.

Two partial rolls of vintage wallpaper, with roses of course.

Lovely barkcloth era twin bed coverlet. Isabel had the excellent idea to use this on the daybed I bought from her for my front room. I think it will be perfect for that!

I love this vintage slip/crinoline I got and wore it under a dress (peeking out) over jeans on Sunday. I thought it looked so cute, but Joy, and MaryAnn made me take off the jeans as it was way too hot out. Wish I got a picture of me taking off my pants in the middle of the isle, but fortunately for you I didn't. The velvet rose I bought from one of my favorite dealers, Susan a fellow dealer at Monticello. It looks red in the picture, but it is really pink.

I also bought a cute little three drawer cabinet which I unfortunately buried in the garage before I could snap a picture of it.

It may seem to some of you that I bought a lot of stuff, but actually I felt I really restrained myself and was very selective. I love everything I got and didn't pay much for any one thing. You all know that I am a thrifty girl.

Now for the award section of this post.

Fitty from Fittys Pinky Rose Cottage was the winner of my 100th post giveaway in March. She was so nice to honor me with the Brillante Weblog Premio-2008 award. Thanks so much Fitty! It's so nice to know that I have readers all around the world who appreciate what I am doing/showing on my blog.

This next award was given to me by Pat at Bird Nest on the Ground. It is the Artey Pico Award. This is the second time I have been lucky enough to receive this award. Pat is fairly new to blogging and has been such a wonderful and sweet frequent commenter on my blog. Pat is an amazing quilter. Please stop by her blog for a visit and tell her hi.

When I first started my blog back in July 07, I never would have thought that people other than my friends and family would read it. Let's face it, I'm not sure my friends and family do read my blog. Okay, maybe a few of them. But I never could have imagined meeting so many wonderful people I now call friends and getting awards for my blog? I'm so not worthy. So thank you so much! You all make this so much fun to do.

Today is my 43rd birthday! Yeah, I'm gettin old. To celebrate I thought it would be fun to give you a present. Okay, I can't give everyone a present, much as I would love to. So, I am going to do a giveaway for one lucky winner. Just leave a comment on this post and you will be entered. One comment per person please. What am I going to give away, you ask? Well, I'm going to fill a box with lots of my favorite things. To see what I like to give away you can look at the posts in the giveaways/swaps category on my sidebar to get an idea of the things I like to share. I will draw a name at random first thing Friday morning. Fun, right?

Hope you all have a fun day and I'll be back on Friday with the winner and some pictures of this weeks thrifted finds. Going walking this morning with my favorite girl and then off to pick blueberries. Tonight, dinner at PF Changs (good thing I'm walking today). TTFN!

Portland Expo Part One

It's over! Thank God! What a crazy, busy, hot, fun, exhausting weekend we had. We started on Thursday by dropping off our stuff at our booth. Friday was early shoppers and set up day. Sales were great Friday, pretty good on Saturday and poor on Sunday. Overall though, this was our best Expo sales wise in the four years we have done this show. We met some awesome people, spent some time with our good selling buddies and did a little shopping too, of course. On this post I will share pictures of our booth, our friends booths, etc. On my next post, I will show you what I bought, and tell you about a couple awards I have been so honored to receive. Here we go!

After picture of commode I showed on a previous post. It didn't sell so it will be going to Monticello.

We had lots of cool mirrors (sold one). My dress form which you may remember from Farm Chicks found a new home.

This cute little shelf sold. I used some of the vintage wallpaper I bought from Heather on it.

This is a dresser that Isabel put vintage barkcloth era fabric on. I think it turned out lovely. One nasty customer called it "gaudy." I think she was high.

Love this caned back settee Isabel brought. Barkcloth pillows made by us both.

Joy, Maryann and Diane trying to keep cool.

Here's Joy. Click on pic for close up for the cutest apron ever.

Our "celebrity" visitor. The sweet and adorable Sally Jean Alexander was shopping the sale. So glad she came by.

Tired selling gals waiting for our table at Joe's Crab Shack Saturday night.
Joy, MaryAnn, Shannon, Isabel and Diane.
Even though this was our best Expo. I have kind of decided it will be my last. Kind of sad as we have developed a little bit of a following and have had many repeat customers. So next yearI will just come to shop! Much more fun, I think. Isabel hasn't decided yet if she will do next year's Expo or not.

Playing Catch Up

As I mentioned in my last post, we spent Friday morning in Silverton at the Old Stuff Sale fabulously organized by Joy. Here are a few pics. from that fun day.

And now, a few pictures of what I bought.

Rose hat box, lamp, old mirror and sewing drawer.

Adorable pair of 1920's rose paintings with velvet frames.

Assorted rhinestone bling.

I spent the remainder of the weekend, painting, sewing, making tags. Wish I had another week to get stuff ready for Expo.

Today I am taking the kids to the airport to see my neice who has a layover on her way back home to Texas. She was visiting her parents in Boise. I haven't seen her in years so it will be good to visit with her. Then a stop at Monticello to pick up a few things for Expo. Hope you all have a wonderful week! I will be taking another blogging break until after the sale. Wish me luck!

Camping, A Project and More Thrifty Finds

We got back from our camping trip on Wednesday and I feel like I haven't slowed down since. We had a great time at the coast. Perfect weather, not too hot, not too cold and it didn't rain. Always a possibility here in Oregon. Here are a few pictures of our trip.

My son and his buddy roasting marshmallows.

Making smores.

My cute daughter and her buddy.

The kids each brought a friend along and they both had their own tents, so my honey and I got to have the big tent all to ourselves. I decided to set up the air mattress with sheets and a comforter instead of sleeping in my usual sweaty sleeping bag and it worked out great. Pretty too.

Hubby took the kids crabbing on Tuesday morning so I headed out to check out some thrift stores and antique shops nearby. Pickins were slim, but I did manage to find a few items worth buying.

Two sets of vintage white pillowcases, a bag of silverplated silverware, vintage deco clock, ralph lauren roses napkins and cute medicine cabinet with etched rose and shelves.

To back track a little, I hit a couple garage sales last Saturday and found some neat things.

Vintage barkcloth era coverlet, lace tablecloth and baby shoes at one sale.

Metal waste basket, metal bucket, old sign, old candle chandelier and pink & white check fabric at another sale.

And finally, I wanted to show you the end result of the little display cabinet I pictured on my last post. I think the makeover went very well. This little cutie is head to Expo next weekend.

Early this morning Isabel and I headed over to Silverton to help Joy set up for the Old Stuff 4th of July sale. We saw lots of our favorite people and I will show you pictures on my next post. Heading out tonight for a big fireworks display. I hope you are all having a fun and safe 4th of July!

P.S. If you haven't already, stop by Isabel's blog for some awesome pics of her recent vacation to Portugal and London.
