Taking a Thrifting Break

Thank you all for your kind words of support for the loss of my Grandma. You are all truly wonderful friends and your words were like a giant warm hug. Thank you! Even though I haven't met most of you in person, I feel that I know you and you know me so I feel like my blog is a safe place to express myself and you will accept me warts and all.

I'm laying low this week, just puttering around the house a bit, doing a bit of cleaning and general organizing. I did make a list of things to do today and surprisingly posting on my blog wasn't one of them. I decided to take a break from thrifting this week as I have been going a little crazy lately and need to work on what I have before buying more. I do have some neat things to share though. Some I will share today and some on my next post.

First off, I would like you to meet Amy. Amy has a sweet little shop in NE Portland called Poppy & Ivy. I stumbled upon Amy's blog a couple months ago and really wanted to check out her shop so, after my last trip over to Monticello, I made my way to NE Portland and paid a visit to Amy. Was I ever glad I did. Her shop is as sweet as Amy. We just started talking and talking and I instantly felt like we were old friends. Fortunately, Amy was kind enough to let me take some pictures.

She carries a combination of vintage items and new vintage inspired items.

My pictures don't do her shop justice, but you can get a general idea of the items she carries. I just realized that I forgot to take a picture of the back area where you will find vintage clothing and children items along with some wonderful artwork.

If you are in the Portland area, please stop at Poppy & Ivy and say hi to Amy.

I bought a little roses covered tablecloth piece, gorgeous vintage rhinestone brooch, and some cute gum packages for the kids. I could have spent a whole lot more there, but I was trying to be good.

Saturday was the day I mentioned that Isabel and I were going to the "3 Friends" Sale. We had a great time and it was fun seeing how cute everyone decorated their own individual sales. I even got to meet some sweet bloggers, Sheila was helping Joy, Rene was shopping at Joy's as was Stephanie. Here is a picture of what I got at the 3 sales.

At Joy's I got the sweet vintage slip and minty green pillowcase with lace. At Diane's I got the hyacinth in the vintage pot, a pink roses ticking, bunch of milinery roses, crochet basket with eggs and lovely hat box. At Cindy's I got the cute white lap desk, pink roses, white milinery and ribbon. I was very happy with my finds.

I have been keeping a secret for awhile, but now I just have to tell you. I'm too excited. On Friday I am going to Sally Jean's studio in Portland to attend a Soldering Workshop. I have been wanting to try soldering for a long time. I hear from those who have taken her class that it is not an easy skill to master and that it takes a lot of practice, but I am definitely up for the challenge. Wish me luck!

On my next post I want to share with you some pictures of a very special swap that I participated in. It deserves a post all to itself. Until then, have a happy day!

I am sorry to hear about your grandma Lisa, you know she's in a better place and it sounds like she had a good long life - which is truly a blessing.
Thanks for coming to my sale on Sat, it was so good to see everyone and glad you found some more stuff to satisfy your junking addiction. Those of us w/ this addiction don't need a 12 step program, we just need cool, cheap junk!

Hi Lisa, I'm so sorry to learn of your grandma's passing, her picture in your banner is precious and you will always have sweet memories.
You found some neat goodies Sat. I especially like the pink crocheted basket and the snack from your work day...yum.
I just noticed the banner on your side-bar, I love it. Did you make it? Take care. Hugs, Linda

Oh Lisa, first off let me say how sorry I am about your grandma...I have not been here for a few days, and I did not know. My prayers are with you and your family. Secondly, I am SO excited for you to take a soldering class from THE MASTER, Miss Sally Jean! LUCKY! I have tried (once, very unsuccessfully) to solder, and need to take a class. Add this to the list of your awesome skills! :)xo suzanne

We all need those breaks. Goodness knows I've been taking break after break after break since the first of the year. LOL Sorry to hear about your grandmother. It is so hard to loose someone you love. I still miss both of mine and they died in the 1970s.
