I'm so Sad

Many newer readers of my blog may not know that the pretty lady on my header is someone very special. When I had my header made, Gail at Shabby Cottage Studio added that picture of my sweet Grandma. I think this picture was taken back in the twenties when my Grandma was in her late teens. I am sad to tell you all that my dear Grandma passed away this morning. She was 91 years old. It was time. But, I am so sad.

I never wanted my blog to be sad or depressing or complaining about things all the time. I wanted it to be a happy place where people could come read about my flea market/thrifted finds, see the latest project I'm working on or family fun things that are happening. I wanted it and still want it to be all that, but the reality is that sad things do happen to me and everyone else. So, while I'm sad, deep down I am glad for my Grandma because now she is at peace. I'm glad my Mom, who btw is a saint for caring for my Grandma all these months, can now get back to living her life.
After I graduated high school, my Grandma took me in for the summer before college. It took some adjusting living together, but for the most part it worked out pretty good. I think she was happy to have the company, at least I hope so. I lived with her again the next summer and again for a short time after graduating college until I could find a job and get an apartment of my own. She helped me buy my first car, a nasty Datsun b210, built like a tank. We weren't what you would call close, but I always admired my Grandma's independence. She liked living alone and I know she wasn't happy moving up to Oregon from Southern California, but her advancing age and declining health made the move necessary so she would be near my Mom.
I hope my Grandma knew how much we all loved her. I will miss her.

Lisa I feel like you are a friend, and in sharing your joys and heartaches that makes it even more so. I am sorry your Grandmother passed, but you have a good attitude about it and that makes the difference. 91, what a wonderful life she had. Did she know she was loved? Of course she did! Take heart in the fact that she had you and her family to care for her and about her and life as you know it can only be the richer for your having known her!
hugs
Sandi

Hey sweetie,

I am so very sorry for your loss. Grandmas are precious - we can learn a lot from them...your beautiful Grandma probably once again looks much like she did in that lovely photo now that she is in a better place...free.

Meanwhile in the here and now there is grief and sadness, and for that I pray for strength and peace for you and your family.

I too lived with my Grandma for a time - I asked her endless questions about what life was like during the Depression and WW2...it was a great time..she was special.

I'm glad you paid tribute to her on your blog - and shared your sadness - that's real life and something that all of us can either relate to or learn from...thank you. We are your friends, virtual though we may be...and we're here for you...

Take care - and always treasure her in your heart...

Hugs and God's blessings,
Becky S.

Lisa, I was just checking out your blog again and there was the news about your grandmother. I am so sorry. My mother-in-law is over 90 also and not doing well. I expect we will be going through the same thing you are soon. My sympathies to you and your family. I will come back soon to see what you have gotten yourself into, as I know that one of the best ways to deal with sadness is to stay busy...especially with something you LOVE.
I'll look forward to the visit. pat
