Home Again and a Birthday Boy

Back from my trip to Southern California. I had such a great time visiting with family, shopping and eating. My most favorite things. Here is where I admit that I was awful about taking photos. Really, I was. I only took my camera out of my bag once. Here is the shot I got.

This lovely headboard was in my most favorite antique shop in Temecula. Isn't it gorgeous? I know Isabel would love it.

My Dad and I did manage to hit the Long Beach Flea Market on Sunday. I wasn't sure it was going to work out to go, but am I ever glad I did. We spent several hours walking and looking, looking and walking. I heard from one dealer that she sold something to Simon Baker that day. I told my Dad that I would most likely never see a celebrity at a flea market because I hardly ever look up. I'm always looking at the stuff.

While I didn't take any pictures of my trip, here are a few pictures of the things I bought.

A chocolate brown crinoline and white fluffy crinoline.

Calling cards, rhinestone hair clip, rhinestone pin and two old watch faces.

Old picture frame, pair of old crusty electric sconces, pair of wood and porcelain lamps, metal architectural pieces, black metal hooks, sweet cotton slip with lace, crochet sachet, bag of glass knobs (not shown ) and three velvet hangers.

Sunday was also the day of my step-Mom, Thetis' retirement party. She retired two weeks ago after spending 40 years working for the US Postal Service. You wouldn't believe how excited she is to be retired. They had Romano's Macaroni Grill cater the party (yummy!) and it was just so nice to visit with my So. Cal family.

Remember I mentioned that when my Dad and I were in Paris we went to three movies? Well, a visit with my Dad just isn't complete without going to see a show. This time we saw "The Boys are Back" with Clive Owen. Great movie! I highly recommend it. Wonderful acting, gorgeous photography, touching story.

I not only ate at my favorite breakfast place, Swing Inn, once, but twice. Biscuits and Gravy the first time, Giant Cinnamon Roll the second time. And as far as beating my Dad at tennis, let's just say that I started off strong, (lost first set 5-6) and then fell apart (lost second set 0-6). I was too exhausted to play a third. Okay, my Dad may be almost 70, but he plays every week, while I only played twice since I last visited him in February. I guess I need to practice more or maybe take some lessons.

So basically that was my trip. It is so good to be home. Today is my son's 14th birthday. I can hardly believe it. It seems as if it was only yesterday when he looked like this.

Look what we found at Costco.

In kindergarten with his red-headed mom who was parent-helping that day.
Camping cutie

Now he looks like this.

He's awesome! Gets straight A's and plays a mean electric guitar.
Yesterday I was at the Portland Expo helping Isabel set up and doing a little shopping. I found a few cute things which I will show in my next post. This morning I am taking my Mom and my blue haired girl to the Tarte Barn Sale. Family birthday party tomorrow so a busy, but fun weekend! I hope you are having a fun weekend too!

Finally, I thought I would show you a picture of my "love." I finally found an "e." Right now it's on my mantel, but it may end up somewhere else. I love letters. I think I'm going to try to find "Pink" next or maybe "Roses." Wish me luck!

It sounds like you had a great time here in CA. You are lucky because our weather finally got to be bareable... it gets so hot here as I am sure you know especially in Murrieta/Temecula. I love that your son will still snuggle with you... I love boys, I guess because I have all girls :) Enjoy the weekend :)

Love your "Love"! It's kinda sad when our children grow up, but you sure have a cutie. I won't tell anyone he still likes to snuggle with Mom...that'll be our little secret! BTW, can he still fit in a cereal box?
